The Evolve shakes were pulled from the market after it was discovered that one of CytoSport’s third-party suppliers may have provided the company with ingredients contaminated with soy. “Consumers that have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of an allergic reaction if they continue to consume the products,” the FDA states. Soy is one of the eight most common food allergens, as identified by the FDA. Soy allergies are thought to be affect approximately 0.25 percent of U.S. adults, up to 0.5 percent of U.S. children, and up to 1.5 percent of U.S. infants under one year of age, as per 2020 research published in the journal Nutrition Today. While no injuries or illnesses related to consumption of the recalled Evolve shakes had been reported at the time the recall notice was published, the FDA cautions against drinking them.
